The “S” symbolizes what sustainability means to me. The top part of the “S” represents going back to the basics—meaning, focusing on the period of time when folks lived off the land, grew their own food and had simple lifestyles. They worked hard and had to survive without the luxuries of electricity and many other comforts that we use today. Frequently you will hear me refer to those skills that people have been using for thousands of years before modern conveniences.
The bottom part of the “S’ stands for the new technology and scientific advancements that help make our lives more comfortable and efficient. Living without technology worked at one point, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t use what we can to make life easier. There is so much science and technology available that we can use in our homes. Such technology makes the basics not so hard or so time consuming.
Taking this journey by relearning the skills of the past and using the technology of today we can achieve a sustainable lifestyle.

Steve it seems to me that the bottom s is going back and the top s is going forward. I love the symbol and the sentiment. I have often said we’ve come so far and lost so much, but it doesn’t have to be that way.
